@khalid: the setting is not on the GT1, but on the TV. In my case is called image style, but the name can differ depending on the manufacturer of the tv

In my brand new GT1 Ultimate (311_MO) i make thiw simple steps :

Go to system, video, acceleration and choose only "mediacodec" [ need expert level ].
Open kodi.
Play the video you like.
Open the video adjustment through the navigation bar [ next subtitles ].
Now the brightness & contrast will be active.
Adjust per preference. I think 55-60 is OK.

I can't seem to find the option for MediaCodec Surface. Using GT1_111MO firmware and Kodi 17.

Found this solution for the brightness-problem elsewhere as well, but i don't seem to have this option.

I have changed the service.bootvideo to 1 as well. My bootvideo has changed to something else. Is this enough or do I need to copy a bootvideo of myself to system \ etc \ to get this to take effect?

I see lot of mentioning of Kodi like it's specific to just the Kodi app, It however It is Not. Nor is it specific to media players, also issue with picture viewers. Worse yet, when watching dark videos (regardless of the player) you can see the dimming effect. It goes from very little light to even less light and back up to a little light again. Happening throughout the dark scenes, and very annoying. Enabling the bootvideo option, works. However the default boot video file in these boxes are with sound, and it plays with maximum volume output of this box. Now figure in that most people uses these boxes to play videos and typically have to increase a lot the TV volume in-order to hear. Then when they power Beelink box up and BOOM! Heart-a-attack and/or blown eardrum. I'm shocked how Beelink company let this issue slide for so long, and still letting this issue exist.
