Here is a fix for the dark screen problem

Use ES File explorer they have a root toggle, so when in directory turn the toggle to green and you have access when done uncheck root toggle . Also yes the boot animation changes.

I cant get this to work.Renamed mp4 to bootvideo.Using filemanager Amaze I got from F-Droid.I used it to check permissions.It was red&write&execute .Other 2 were read.I went onto step 4 and I cant find \ System \ build.prop.I found a system/default prop.Open it up with text editor and it had nothing in theirwith service.bootvideo=1 so I just added line.rebooted and I get the stock colored balls.There was already a bootvideo in system/etc.It was the Mbox logo.I deleted that one and replaced with the Marsh mellow one in th folder I downloaded.

Got it.I was watching a youtube video that had nothing to do with and it led mr downloading buil.prop from google stotr.ItJust changed service to 1 and rebooted and it worked .Now I have new boot logo..

It worked for me, I installed Root Browser and did step 4 only. Rebooted and my Kodi video looked good.
It looks like the dark screen problem is solved.

Yes this will change the boot video animation. I can confirm that this makes the dark problem in Kodi 17 less apparent, the videos are brighter. But I still can't controll the brightness and contrast while playing a video. @theyipper did you do something more? I tried streams in Exodus and was not able to change brightness or contrast, does this work for you?

Followed instr. Booted to new screen and froze.
Had to do a factory reset. I previously made backups on two different USB.
Neither restored the system. Is there anything I can try to get the restore completed?

Hey guys. My GT1 ultimate had the dark screen issue. To fix it, I only had to change the picture type on the TV from "standard" to "natural", or anything else. The issue is now completely fixed. No other fixes were attempted.

Hi mradu, can you explain how you have changed this setting please ? I've got the GT1 ultimate too and same issue of dark screen.
