My U59 Pro display is garbled lines or blocks and flashing on startup at Ubuntu 23 login screen. It will then reboot after about 20 seconds. I'm fairly sure this a problem with the i915 display driver. However my previous U59 Pro had no such display problem running Ubuntu. I've tried installing an earlier version of Ubuntu with the same result.

The display works normally in Windows 11. Could it be a issue with the BIOS setting and/or linux kernel i915 driver?

I've installed the latest 6.7.3-060703-generic mainline Ubuntu kernel. The same problem occurs.

Your bios is already up to date. Can you try refreshing the system with other Ubuntu versions?

Thanks for your reply. I have tried live installers of Fedora, Lubuntu, Mint and Manjaro. All have the same issue with garbled flashing display on startup both live and installed.

I've tried Ubuntu kernels 6.7.3-060703 and 6.5.0-17.

And also installed earlier versions of Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS, 20.04.5 LTS and 18.04.6 LTS.

None of these are working. My previous U59 Pro had no problems running Ubuntu.

I'm not sure what else I can try. I'm beginning to suspect this is a hardware issue.

Hi I've sent an email to your support email. In the meantime I've discovered that the problem is related to the ram sticks.

Using both memory sticks the PC will crash. Booting with a single stick in either slot the PC will start normally. I've tested each stick separately in either ram slot. It's when both ram slots are used the system will crash.

I've also run Memtest with full 4 passes with no errors. Ram could still have errors though. I've seen this before with a bad power supply. Or could be a mainboard problem.

Regards,
Dean

Installed Windows and after a while running it also crashed. It's done this on multiple reboots. So must be faulty RAM.
