PSA : IMPORTANT do not update AMD

These are  a lot of chipset updates, but no GPU driver if you update to roll back will break certain software features unless you know what you are doing which is not easy.

Beelink said this update will fix problems, someone already did and it didn't fix it for them so please don't update until the GPU driver is in the package.

The update dated 25.7.23 is only 60mb too small for GPU drivers.

Please don't spread FUD. The driver is over 600Mb in size and detects the 780M GPU integrated in the Ryzen 7480HS/7490HS. If this fixes all issues remains to be seen, but so far it looks good.

AMD delivers a lot of SoC-level stuff with Graphics drivers. As as an example, do you know if AMD delivers SMU drivers with their GPU drivers for the APUs?

I honestly, have no idea if they do and from the reports of problem this seems like a power management issue, so very possibly it's the firmware of the SMU block that might have a problem(as it's the one responsible for managing power in the SoC) and is incorrectly doing some of the power states transitions on specific scenarios.

Linux driver AMDGPU does include SMU stuff in it, despite being a graphics driver.

if I am not wrong, people have also reported that the random reboots didn't happen with no drivers installed and just having Windows Basic Display Adapter as their driver.

yet someone updated and said the driver update didn't resolve the issue either.

Where are you seeing this?

In AMD website for drivers there is finally the option for 7840HS and 7940HS and from there, you can get the 'auto-detect and download' package which is smaller or the bigger one in case you already know what exactly is your SKU. The former is pretty small and consistent with what you put.

With that said, GPU driver can actually be 60MB, if it doesn't include AMD bloatware(i.e. adrenaline). As that's basically most of the space in the installer...(it even includes stuff like a web browser).

Where exactly have you seen this chipset driver? I don't see it in AMD, as the chipset driver for Ryzen Mobile is quite old(23/05/2023).

And AMD did provide a full 600MB driver(that has plenty of bloat!) for 7840HS/7940HS/U-series today

I can't post the link otherwise it awaits moderation release it's on (Reddit) a google search of 780M Driver will find it.

That's no driver, that's just the "Auto-Detect and Install" utility. The driver itself is 625MB in size.
