Dear Beelink, I installed Ubuntu server 23.04 on my new Beelkink EQ12. I am getting the input/output error below when I try to mount an external hard drive connected to the EQ12's usb-c port. I have also tried Ubuntu server 22.04 LTS and get the same error--I tried Ubuntu server 23.04 because it uses a more advanced linux kernel which has better support for the Intel n100 processor, but the usb-c port still did not work.

Nothing is wrong with the external hard drive because it connects and works fine when I connect it my Beelink U59's usb-c port (running Ubuntu server 22.04 LTS). The problem is the Beelink EQ12's usb-c port. Did Beelink change the usb-c controller between these two models? Maybe the Beelink EQ12 needs a BIOS upgrade?

Here is the error that I get when I try to mount the external hard drive:
  1. 484.247108] INFO: task mount: 1246 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
  2. 484.247182] Not tainted 6.2.0-25-generic #25-Ubuntu
  3. 484.247219] "echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout._secs" disables this message.
  4. 496.692256] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] tag#23 timing out command, , waited 180s
  5. 496.692355] I/O error, dev sda, sector 0 op 0x1: (WRITE) flags 0X800 phys_seg 1 prio class 2
  6. 496.692415] I/0 error, dev sda, sector 0 op 0×1: (HRITE) flags 0x800 phys_seg 1 prio class 2
  7. 496.692467] Buffer I/D error on dev sda, logical block 0, lost sync page urite
  8. 496.692590] EXT4-f (sda): I/0 error while writing superblock
  9. 496.692664] EXT4-fs (sda): mount failed
  10. mount: /media/frigate: can't read superblock on /dev/sda.
  11. dmess (1) may have more information after failed mount system call.
Copy the Code
Why does my external hard drive work with Beelink U59's usb-c port, but does *not* work with the Beelink EQ12's usb-c port? Do you have a patch for this? Maybe new BIOS or something?

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I've found the usb-c port on my EQ12 to be poorly formed (part of problem I think is that most cable plugs cant be shoved in far enough to make good contact). I have 1 usb-c cable out of 4 that will make good enough contact, and then read and write fine to an external NVME drive.

Might try a different cable, and shove in a little harder. Once it is working, though, DON"T touch it. The least little movement and the connection will be lost at least on mine.

Thanks @nathanarizona I think the plastic case is much too thick. I was able to connect a usb-c cable and hear it click but perhaps it needs to be in further. Have you considered taking the case off and drilling the plastic out around the usb-c port?

Hello there,

Thanks for your letter and sorry for the late reply.

You can reset BIOS first--- There is a small hole for CLR CMOS on the front of the machine, please insert a pin for 15 seconds after unplugging the power and HDMI cable

And could you email us, here is our email----support-pc@bee-link.com
please tell us the version of your linux system, so that we can send you corresponding Driver File .

Have a nice day!

I have exactly the same problem. I can plug only one usb-c hub into the device and I have to push it very hard. It is a case design problem that does not allow usb-c cables to be connected.

I have had the same problem when backing up and restoring with Clonezilla. I also thought it was my external SSD, but after searching other forums, I think the problem is the USB-C port's lack of power. Some external USB SSDs with USB 3.2 support require 1.5A. The question now is: how much current does the USB-C port deliver? If it only supplies 800mA, there will be an I/O error after a while.

With an external USB-C hub that supports USB 3.2 and is supplied with extra power, the problem does not occur, which is not the point of the whole thing. Finally, we have bought a device that suggests support for modern media. Unfortunately, no exact specifications are given for this USB-C port.

Dear support, can you please enlighten us here and possibly provide a BIOS update?
