Hi all,
i've installed an additional SSD with ribbon cable provided.

Windows/ubuntu look right the new unit when system is started, read the data stored into ssd,but... when i try to boot ssd instead original nvme, bios not recognize ssd.
Bios also ignore boot type (uefi / legacy)..

I've tried also to remove the nmve and keep connected only ssd drive, but bios seem ignore this one.
Only working methods was install grub on nvme (uefi mode) and link the old ubuntu installation on ssd.

Bios issue? There is maybe a new firmware?

Correct method is to install GRUB on main SSD and link the Linux install from the SATA SSD, as you said. Must be other settings to make the 2nd ssd bootable, but I cannot help you at this matter. Plus... if you install GRUB in main SSD you don't need to change from bios the boot drive or press F7.

fxnoob: the problem wouldn't occur if the bios boot directly from ssd.
This ssd was unplugged from another pc.... and it was bootable.

I expected that by configuring the bios I could find the ssd in the hd list, but this was not the case.
The strange thing is that if i start another installation, the ssd is visible and accessible.
From here, I thought to install grub on the "first" nvme calling the os on the "second" ssd.

Hello there,
Sorry  for your trouble.
You mean the machine can't recognize your new 2.5 SSD?
Pls try to do this:
① Check whether the SATA cable is intact. ② Set CSM as boot on the advanced page of BIOS ③ Repartition to MBR type in Disk Manager

Hi Support-03,
the "new" ssd actully is an old ssd with a bootable system.
The cable is ok, because any live system can recognize it.
My opinion is about some bios issue.. but... later I can try with your pont (2) and (3).

Described in previous posts, is a funcionally workaround to boot the old SSD (mbr) passing into NVMe (UEFI).

I will keep you up to date, thanks ;)

I tried your suggestions but nothing changed.

① Check whether the SATA cable is intact.
Yes, also changed with other one provided
② Set CSM as boot on the advanced page of BIOS
changed, no change
③ Repartition to MBR type in Disk Manager
repartitioned, disk not boot.

We can try update with last bios release?

I have the same issue. I installed a 2.5" SSD with Linux Mint installed that boots and works fine in another pc. When I go into Windows 11 disk management it sees the drive.  Unfortunately I don't see an option in the bios to boot to the SSD.  Is there any way to select the secondary drive for booting?
