I wanted to update my GTR 5 computer 3550H using the downloaded file MPC31V0008_3550H.exe.  When I click on the file I get a blue screen Windows protected your PC.  Microsoft Defender Smartscreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting.  Running this app might put your PC at risk.  I cannot run the bios update utility on my computer.  I want to update the bios to Ver0008 so I can enable TPM2.0 in the bios.  My current bios is MPC31V007.  How do I upgrade my bios for TPM2.0.  Can my computer be upgraded or not???  I do not want to damage my computer.  To upgrade and run the file MPC31V008_3550H.exe do you just click on this file and it is supposed to run by itself???

I only know how to turn my computer on and off and then windows boots up.  I do not understand the message Windows Defender Smartscreen.  If I click on a file and it will not run I do not know what to do next.  Do you know how to bypass Windows Defender Smartscreen message.

If you search for "Turn off windows defender anti virus" you'll get:

Turn off Defender antivirus protection in Windows Security
  • Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Manage settings (or Virus & threat protection settings in previous versions of Windows 10).
  • Switch Real-time protection to Off.

Rember these steps so you can restart the anti virus protection

Run the downloaded BIOS file MPC31V0008_3550H.exe

You'll get a message like "do you wnat this app to make chnages to your computer" - click yes.

You'll get a command window open (probbaly a black background with white text. It says close all open apps and do not stop the install process from running). Allow this to run.

Restart your anti-virus.

You will now be Win 11 ready - do not alter anything in the BIOS. Win 11 readiness can be checked by going to https://aka.ms/GetPCHealthCheckApp and following the instructions to download and run this checker.

Step 1: download the BIOS update if not done already

step 2: disable Windows defender anti virus by:
Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Manage settings (or Virus & threat protection settings in early versions of Windows 10).
Switch Real-time protection to Off.

step 3: double-click the exe BIOS file you downloaded. You DO NOT need to extract any files.

step 4: you'll probably get a request to allow an app to change your system - that's fine, click yes/ok

step 5: a command window will open (black background; white text probably) telling you to close all apps (do this) and not to turn off your computer etc. When ready, tell it to start
I don't recall if it reboots. If it doesn't, I'd recommend that you reboot.

It will update the BIOS from within Windows and the settings for Win 11 are already set as needed - nothing further to do.
You can check all is well buy running the Win 11 compatibility checker here: https://aka.ms/GetPCHealthCheckApp (download, install, run)

Good luck

I've replied twice already but get told my messages will be moderated - I can post on other forums and also here as of a couple of months ago. You'll get two more replies eventually!

I'll try again:
Download the BIOS file.
Search Google for "Turn off Windows defender anti-virus"
Double-click the BIOS file
Follow the prompts with yes or OK etc
When finished you'll be set for Win 11 - check with https://aka.ms/GetPCHealthCheckApp (download, install, run)

Good luck

Hi, dear
You can visit the link below and download the V008 version of BIOS to update, after downloading the file, you just need to double click the exe file to update automatically, it will not damage your computer, the update will automatically reboot after completion, after the reboot is complete, the update is successful, no need to set any parameters of the BIOS, you can directly upgrade windows 11 system.
