A couple things come to mind...
1) Go into settings, apps, that app, permissions and see if is granted storage permissions. IF not then add it yourself, reboot and test.
2) Another way is to add permissions for that app using the ADB shell commands... i dont remember the exact command line but you should be able to search for it in 'google'
3) If your box is still rooted, there is probably a command you could issue from a terminal prompt... also check 'google' for that
