Because these apps are not adapted to the ATV system, they can't be displayed on the home screen. The experience doesn't feel very good. Please download and use the app in the Google Store. If you need to use an external program, you can open the settings->apps

You can search leanback shortcut in the play store. I make this app,it's a useful app.

You are right , but my leanback shortcut is better.It's only for android tv oreo and above.You should have a try.

In the future ATVXperience will make it possible to run android 8.1 on boxes with the s912cpu. But i`d rather stick with the ATV look. Maybe your leanback launcher would be better for people with the newer GT1-mini ATV...that is running android tv 8.1.
