hello,
In theory, it is supported, but it has not been tested. The specific situation needs to be tested by itself.

Hi,

I looked at vsphere and openstack but in the end, I'm planning to use KVM (+QEMU) on a Debian via virt-manager
Only problem: I never had so much trouble installing linux on a box.

I can select the usb device at boot time (F7) but the screen just hangs on a black screen with a non-blinking white cursor.

No idea what's happening. Tried Rufus, Unetbootin, various options, ... nothing.

I followed the tuto with Ubuntu+UltraISO too but it just stop at a screen with a white mouse cursor on a black screen. Nothing more.

I'll give another try tonight.

would you mind testing ESXi 6.5 for example? it should not take much linger than 30 min-s, to download image from vmware, prepare USB stick and run.
