If you really want something that works without all the hassle you need to look at something like the shield, minix u1 or a wetek device and forget about the Chinese boxes,all the above mentioned have support and firmware dont be blinded by new boxes and their latest hardware like s912 and android 6 the s905 is actually better

I can confirm that the brightness problem is still present with GT1_109M0 firmware update.  However, playing a 4K video still seems to work around the problem temporarily.

There is a fix for this change bootvideo in build_prop from 0 to 1
