It has been a good while... but I remember the gray Android robot is normal when upgrading this way.
It also may be difficult to see, but there is a progress bar on the bottom of the screen that you may have to really closely look at to see that it's actually slowing reflecting the progress until it's operation is fully done. This can take up-to 10 minutes... may look like it froze, but it's actually progressing slowly but surely.
