Hi, same here, OTA did not work at first time. See below my method:

- shutdown the box
- press the reset button under the box with a thin stick and stay put.
-start the box with power button on remonte control
- realease reset button when you enter the recovery mode
- with remote control, chose wipe data/reset
-reboot the box and wait a little bit longer to enter home-screen
-execute ota update. download the update and press the update button just once and it should work.

Be carefull, you will lose all your data and applications.

I had to perform a full reset from recovery on one of my other units.
The Factory Data Reset within the settings menu was non-functional after the first firmware update.

So OP's directions do work if other method doesn't.

First OTA update works. The second update release 30Sep does not work for me.
- Done factory reset
- able to download complete and ask to update later or now (click update now)
- pop up window showing "preparing update" it start at 18% and only progress upto 20% when the box rebooted
- Android appear showing update and quickly show "ERROR"

Repeat different reset including the pinhole reset, doesn't work.
No way to update OTA.
Any help appreciated.

Found the problem.
Remove microSD card and the problem solved.

Had no problem with OTA update.  Had nothing plugged into box (USB or SD) while doing update.   However,   this update did nothing to fix the dark scenes.

Hello all,  I done the update for the new firmware by OTA, now my GT1 doesn't boot. I try doing reset in recovery mode, but it does nothing, just hangs, like if it has no firmware to use to reset.  If I try to update to the previous firmware, it says it cannot update to a previous version. Can some one post here the latest firmware, so I can try to update using a USB flash.  I really don't want to think this new firmware somehow broke my GT1. Thanks in advance.

Sept. 30 OTA update also not working for me.  Have tried about a dozen times, with both Update Now and Update Later.  Not willing to do factory reset on this particular device because it will take hours to restore my state, but I had a Mini M8S II with the same problem and the recovery mode reset worked for that.

first time my box also failed to update with update from 30. september, then I removed usb and sdcard, restarted the box and tried again - update worked no problem.
still seeing the  green screen flickers though
