Hi

I tried a boot with gtkingpro-u-boot.bin.sd.bin rename to u-boot.ext but it doesn't work ..

Hi @gtkingpro.ac2n,
Did you manage to get the Armbian for S9xxx to boot up consistently and stable?

Hi @JFL
No, for the moment I still have this problem of freeze at startup quite regularly but it starts all the same by forcing the restart.
Today I tried the last 5.4 release to see and I have the same concerns, in short I wonder if it does not come from my SD card .. Have you been able to test this S922x_armbian on SD or USB ??
I will try an install on a USB medium to see if that fixes this problem.
Edit: Flashed on USB medium but same problem of freeze..

Hi @gtkingpro.ac2n,

Base on ophub response, with kernel 5.4.y you do not need the second stage u-boot.  Does that mean you do not need to copy any of the u-boot-xxxx.bin to u-boot.ext?
There are always more solutions than difficulties, choose a solution you like:

The firmware using the 5.4 kernel does not require u-boot secondary boot, so this phenomenon will not occur.
Have you been able to test this S922x_armbian on SD or USB ??
Not yet.  Still haven't acquire a any new SD/USB yet.

Just noticed Khadas had announced a new release v1.0.9 with their own patched kernel-5.16-rc2.

As there was still a u-boot.ext present after the flash in the / boot partition
I renamed u-boot-gtking-pro.bin to u-boot.ext

Hi @darkstar, @Beelink

Beelinks firmware is based on Android 9 with legacy kernel and legacy u-boot.
If Beelink changes the u-boot to mainline original android firmware may have boot issues.
That is why Beelink cannot do anything, they have to use legacy u-boot.
Ugoos AM6 an AM6 Plus also uses Android 9 with legacy kernel and legacy u-boot, but their implementation seems to be more friendly with linux mainline kernel where the second stage u-boot (chainloader) is not required.  Manjaro-Arm had already implemented that for Ugoos AM6/Plus without requiring the second stage u-boot. Unfortunately, Beelink GT King Pro currently could will kernel panic during booting process without the second stage u-boot.

I hope @Beelink Support to contact @spikerguy of Manjaro Team to see how to rework the legacy u-boot to able to work with Linux Mainline Kernel >5.10 without having to resort to second stage u-boot (chainloader).  Apparently without the chainloader it will improve linux system stability.

i suppose when ophub indicated the second stage bootloadaer is not required for kernel 5.4.y, either he meant to use  the default u-boot.ext, or there is a script to ignore u-boot.ext or just rename the default u-boot.ext to something else like u-boot.ext-default.

Seems to be way more difficult to get Armbian for S922x to work then balbes150 Armbian image.

Hi @gtkingpro.ac2n,

Happen to come across this https://github.com/ophub/amlogic-s9xxx-armbian/issues/31
If this person can get the gtking to overclock, the Armbian for S922x should be booting up ok with 5.15.y and stable on normal speed.  What u-boot-xxxx.bin and image did he/she use to get it to work?

Interesting, gtking over clock to 2.60 GHz higher than Odroid N2+ 2.4 GHz.

Hi @JFL You've just got it, I rename u-boot.ext to uboot-ext.bak and try to boot without any u-boot.ext it works fine and starts without problems ..

Yes indeed that interests me well but I presume an installation on the EMC and suddenly not this damn problem with u-boot.ext finally I have a system which starts easily there I will perhaps remain under 5.4 if I can I have the hardware decoding of my videos ..? But I'm not sure, how can I check this easily ..?
Thanks again and I'm looking forward to Slackware too ..
Have a good day..

If installation on EMMC, then I will give it a pass.  Still use Android regularly.

Not sure about hardware decoding.  You can check with "mpv --hwdec=v4l2m2m-copy <videofile>".  glxinfo -B will at least let you know whether panfrost is supported/activated for gpu acceleration.
  1. jfl@mnjro-gtkpro    glxinfo -B
