Hey guys!

I have a SER5 Pro AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, the temperature when it is idle was 90° C, so I decided to check the BIOS and in the hardware monitor item it shows the following parameters:

CPU temperature: +83° C
System temperature: +46°C
CPU Fan Speed: 3426 RPM
System Fan Speed: 1442 RPM
Vcore: +1.356V
V_SM: +1.212V

hardware monitor

Are these parameters normal ?
I mean, I'm inside the BIOS, it hasn't loaded anything into the system yet, so I imagine these parameters are too high, the fan is really loud here, to the point of bothering the noise.

I didn't change any parameters in the BIOS, I just opened it and went straight to Hardware Monitor, my BIOS version is 5800H502.
Please, if anyone can help I'll be very grateful.

I thank you in advance for your attention.

Hello there,

First of all, your BIOS version is the latest one.
Your PC is overheating if it reaches 90°C when it is idle.
Please Check the PC's power settings and make sure that it is not running in high-performance mode.
Please go to control panel--power option--choose high performance--advanced setting--processor power managemenet--set to 99%

I'm with firmware version: 5800H501

When I've started the unit after having it completely turned off for several hours, I've missed my opportunity to be entering straight into the BIOS via DEL, loaded Windows and I promptly restarted to re-enter the BIOS.

This is what I've observed;

Hardware Monitor - BIOS

At 70°C increasing by 1°C every 30secs
At 86°C > 87°C 42 secs
At 89°C > 90°C 5mins 30 secs

While the CPU temps increases so does the CPU fan, however It seems at 90°C the CPU fan focuses on trying to keep it at that though; The specs from AMD about Ryzen 7 5800H shows the Maximum Operating Temperature is 105°C and with a configurable TDP rating between 35 watts to 54 Watts.

AMD says is by design and won't harm the CPU over time. At their default settings, the chips usually do run between 90° and 95° C in our tests when all their cores are engaged.

... However didn't expect to see it go from 70°C to 90°C in a short period of time when just started the unit and in Hardware Monitor - BIOS utility.

I don't hear the CPU fan, or any fan noise coming from this unit. Is there any vibration from the unit when you hear the fan noise?

I had this CPU in a mini PC made by another company, it never went past 90C and they were very short spikes. I sold the pc to a friend, he is running Linux on it and his temps are around 43-44C constantly. The CPU was set to 54W in bios. Running constantly at 90C is not normal for this CPU.

I attached his snapshot from Conky (the hw monitor from Debian).

Well this seems to be specific to using Hardware Monitor - BIOS utility. In Windows 11 is completely different story. It's pretty much staying at 46°C, giving, I'm not doing much in Windows 11 to cause it to stress out at the moment either.

Remember to read it carefully; when I said AMD says "is by design and won't harm the CPU over time. At their default settings, the chips usually do run between 90° and 95° C in our tests when all their cores are engaged."

I also have this unit, mine does the same temperatures reach 90 degrees, but I've set the fan from 1tpm to 2tpm and it's cooled it down quite a bit, are there any options in the BIOS to possibly overclock the unit or up the power limit safely? Thank you.

BIOS isn't optimized as far as I can see, so system isn't in IDLE modus when in BIOS. Mine does 80+ in BIOS as well.

What are your temps in Windows? You can download HWiNFO for example to see sensordata.
Mine does 39-45 degrees in idle (doing nothing), 45-60 light browsing, more demanding tasks 50-80. When I push the system to it's max 91 degrees (Prime95).

Curious how your temps in Windows are.

Please also check the cpu package power in HWiNFO.  If the temp is this high while idle in windows chances are the system will not have enough power to deliver performance on other apps.
