GTR7 no labels for the vents and intake fan

Can anyone explain what the slatted vents and the intake fan are for?
Should I be avoiding anything when it comes to changing the airflow of the baseplate?

I want to stick fans on either side of the eixisting vents and add a vent to the underside beneath the vents and fan and add another fan beneath the vents so its getting air pushed in from all sides except the top allowing airflow out of the top of the GTR7 but pushing in more cool air into the base of the system.

That is perfect thank you, what are the fins for on the left hand side of the image where you have the blue arrows pointing right is that also intake or best to have air flowing in the direction shown over the fins please?
