I added a Powered USB 3.2 Gen 2 Hub to a S12 Mini N95 Mini computer and the drives hooked up to the hub have not been functioning correctly. With both a M.2 in an external drive case and a SATA Hard Drive plugged into a Single bay Sabrent docking station, the CrystalMark 8 test hangs up while displaying the message, "Preparing - Creating Test File". Unpluging the drive with the problem, will cause the CrystalMark test to continue to completion, with zero for each test result. Both the M.2 external drive and Single Bay Docking station work fine when plugged directly to one of the S12 Mini Computer's USB plugs.

The same exact failure also happens with the CrysalMark8 test if I use either one or two drives plugged into a Sabrent 2 bay Docking Station plugged directly into the S12 computer or the USB 3.2 Hub. The Sabrent 2 bay Docking station is the same model as the single bay Sabrent Docking Station mentioned above, except it has 2 bays. Both docking stations are listed as USB 3.1,  Gen 2 10Gbps.

Everything mentioned above works fine with my desktop computer, with or without the USB 3.2 Hub.

With a powered 3.0 USB hub (This is another item) plugged into the S12 Mini Computer everything including the 2 bay docking station works. But, as expected at about only half the speed.

The only other thing I have plugged into the S12 computer is a Logitech Unifying  USB receiver for my mouse and keyboard. The same type of USB receiver is also plugged into my desktop computer.

I reset the BIOS back to the factory defaults, and also tried plugging things into different USB plugs on the S12 mini, to no avail.

It would be greatly aprreciated, if anyone here could explain what might be causing this problem, and what could be done to correct it.

Thank You,

Rich

Hi to All,

The mystery of this problem has been solved, for now. Have you heard the expression if it is not broken, do not fix it. Well, I did not get the memo and had installed the Intel I/O drivers that were provided with the driver download for this computer. After uninstalling those drivers, the S12 Mini computer started to work correctly. It could have been something else, but I cannot think of anything else I might have done, or it could have been.

After the Intel drivers were uninstalled, the 2-bay docking station, with one drive installed, and in the external M.2 drive enclosure unit were plugged directly into the S12's USB plugs. Then the computer was restarted and the hard/M.2 drives along with everything else on the computer worked correctly.

The powered 3.2 Gen2 hub I purchased from Amazon is another matter. That hub was plugged into the computer with the two-bay docking station, having a single drive installed, plugged into the docking station. Then the computer was rebooted. This time I noticed a USB symbol popped up on the hidden icon panel. It indicated an unrecognized device was found. Device manager showed an unrecognized device under the Universal Bus Controller Section. The entire device manager’s display was also flashing off and on. I think it was in a loop trying to install the driver for the hub.

The hard drive that was installed in the docking station showed up in Windows Explorer, however, the Crystal Disk test for this drive failed in the manner described in the previous post. But now I have a better idea of where to go.

I will be contacting the maker of the hub for assistance in getting it to work with the S12 Mini Computer. I will be back for better or worse with what I find out about the hub. At that time the make and model number of the hub will be provided.
