I'm interested in the GTR5 5900HX and have a couple of questions I can't find answers to...

1. What generation is the NVMe interface? I understand it comes with a Gen3 drive but is it a Gen3 or Gen4 interface, i.e. can I replace the Gen3 drive with a Gen4 and get full Gen4 speed (thinking of getting the WD SN850 - 7000GB read, 5300GB write)?

2. Is it possible to "daisy chain" off the Display Port in order to run 3 monitors without using the USB-C port?

TIA

It's gen3 because it's a mobile chipset to increase power efficiency and heat limits for the small mobile device.  I believe you can install a 4.0 device but it only goes up to the theoretical 3.0 limits, as marion shows.

Never mind, I finally found the answer to the first question after some searching....

GTR5 has two M.2 2280 SSD card slots, one of the M.2 SSD card slots is PCIe 3.0 4X bus, supports Nvme SSD protocol, and can reach a speed of up to 2GB/S

So, Gen3.

First of all, you need to make sure that your monitors support display port 1.2 daisy chain.
Secondly, Your display port is also 1.2 version and support MST(Multi-StreamTransport)
Lastly, you can also buy a docking stattion if you want to connect to many monitors

In regards to your question #1

Gen4 PCIe would be the right answer.

I'm running WD_BLACK 2TB SN850 NVMe M.2 2280, 3D NAND model WDS200T1X0E (super fast)
