Xbox 360 controller work??

Does a xbox 360 controller work ??I cant get mine to work.I plug it in and little home icon turns to a controller but screen freezes.It eventually gives me  a "LIghtHome isnt responding" message.I have choosen "OK and wait" wait just sets there and nothing changes.OK just goes back to working controls and controller icon goes back to Home icon.
Id xbox 360 controller just plug and play or am i Missing something elese.I also couldnt get my bluetooth controller to work.

Update for anyone who cares. I was able to get Xbox 360 wired controller working.I guess Light home doesnt like xbox .I have a Asus tablet and like its launcher so I installed Ausus launcher and used that instead of lighthome.Rebooted and Xbox controller.Works like it should.So now I have to choose Asus launcher when I want to occasionally play a game and for most other times stick with Lighthome
