Dolby Digital (AC3) pass-through not working in Kodi

Hello all,

I am also having an issue with getting Dolby Digital (AC3) sound from kodi to my receiver. If the video file is using DTS, then the sound works as it should, but for any AC3 files, i do not get any sound from my receiver. I have changed pretty much every setting on the Android sound settings side and the kodi sound setting side. From a hardware perspective, the GT1 box works and can pass AC3 audio to my receiver. I have tested this by running the same video files using VLC that i have installed on the GT1 box. It should be pretty simple to setup by using pass-through in kodi, but i can only conclude that there is some compatibility issues between kodi and this GT1 android box.  At this point i am using Plex for my media organizer. The benefit of plex is that i can force it to open the media files within VLC and i can listen to them in full Dolby digital audio.

I have tried setting the audio to 2.0 speaker configuration within Kodi and clicking on the Enable Dolby Digital (AC3) transcoding. That didn't make any difference for solving my issue.

If anyone has a suggestion to get pass-through working for AC3, i am all ears.

GT1 is connected to my TV through HDMI, and i have the optical out from GT1 to my receiver.
Kodi is v16.1

Have you tried going optical out from TV to your receiver instead?  Just curious

I did try that. The problem is the audio that the TV receives from playing AC3 file within Kodi from the GT1 box is just static noise. The TV then passes that garbage to the receiver by optical out.

Hi,
I've no problems with AC3 or DTS in Kodi. I use stock firmware 106 with Kodi 16.1. In Andoid I've set Dolby Output to HDMI. In Kod I've set 'Passthru' and activated the 2 options fields. Receiver supports AC3 and Receiver supports DTS. Works without problems on My Denon Receiver.
