New 5500U stuck at "wait while we setup"

I've not had this computer 24 hours and it has been stuck for hours at "Please wait while we set up your devices...".  



I let it continue overnight but it never completed the "setup".  I've since performed a hard shutdown and now I'm stuck again at the same spot just trying to get the setup to finish. The second attempt has been going on for about an hour.  

Should this process take a lot of time, or is this thing defective?   Any advice?
