Me and many others have been experiencing system instability since day one, it's OS dependent, to me it is much more worse in Linux than in Windows, but both suffer from it. Now it's clear what the problem is:

Seems that the deep idle CPU power savings modes conflict with the new DDR5 power down saving modes, that's basically it. The DDR5 internal microcontroller can dynamically shut down a DRAM module to save power without the CPU being fully aware of it.

Right now there are 2 possible "fixes", one is taking out 1 DRAM module, that seems to prevent the other from being powered down. The other solution is to tell the OS kernel to disable CPU deep idle C6 state.

Why not ALL units are having this problem? Honestly I dont know, maybe the DRAM firmware is different and some modules are fixed, as said I dont know.

Obviously those are temporary solutions until a BIOS update definitively solves the problem. The new BIOS should at least expose these two power saving modes as optional so either one can be disabled manually:

  • CPU deep idle C6 state.
  • DRAM power down

Support are your engineers aware of the problem? We are patiently waiting for this BIOS update, I bet many have already returned their units because of this problem, please take action.

Thank you it is good to know a new bios is being created.

A few users of Linux confirmed the c6 alteration within Linux does solve the rebooting.
So it is just needed to be added to the options in bios so Windows does not have anymore rebooting.

If we have a wish list for the next BIOS release, let me add my  $.02 there:

- add an option to BIOS to increase and decresase TDP. It would be nice to have it dynamicall adjusted in mW increments, but if it's too much work, at least have some reasonable fixed values selection, like: 45W, 50W, 55W, 60W, 65W, 70W, 75W.

There is already an option to set TDP.

Well, if you tried it, you would notice that it doesn't work in current BIOS releases. The TDP always stays capped at 65W.
