Hi,

I recently bought a GT-R 7 to use as a homelab/server for some light applications (pihole, bitwarden, openvpn, lancache, nextcloud) and I think it will suite my needs well.

Unfortunately the fan profile is very obnoxious when the machine is under light load. When very little is happening the fan will stop spinning and allow the SOC to climb to about ~50 C and then suddenly kick in at full blast and cool it down to ~47-48 C and then cutout again. This ramping up and down is much more noticable and annoying than the constant spin of the fans when the system is under light load.

Would it be possible for users to have access to the fan curve configuration through the BIOS? I have searched just about every menu and I don't see anything about it in the BIOS. I've also tried to use linux's pwmconfig command but there isn't an exposed sensor to control thorugh the kernel. Either an option to raise or lower the stop fan temperature would be acceptable since it doesn't seem like the BIOS you're working with is particularly flashy and might not be able to support Q-fan control like many consumer mobo BIOS.

Thanks

I followed the instructions, but the program just sits there, it doesn't flash.

I do "ls" and it says there are no files. I made sure I'm using FAT32. I made it an 11 gig partition on my 128 gig flash drive so that it would format FAT32.

Okay, I did
fs0:
dir
fs1:
dir
fs2:
dir
fs3:
dir
fs4:
dir

My flash drive is fs4:
"cd startup.nsh"says invalid directory or something
"startup.nsh"
errors that the file can't be found.

I restarted into windows, edited the startup.nsh file, the startup.nsh file has fs3: in it, I changed it to fs4:

I rebooted, started from the flash drive and it automatically ran the bios flash.

Now I am at:
Core Version 5.14
Compliancy UEFI 2.7; PI 1.6
Project Version MPC31V006 x64

Sorry it took a while.

I followed the instructions that were posted for Donut and was able to flash the BIOS back to version 5.0, but I still am seeing the same behaviour from the fan. It will be off until the SOC gets up to around 50C then it will spin up ver high, cool it down a few degrees, and then cut off.

I didn't see any additional options in the BIOS to control the fan profile.

It seems quite a bit better after this bios upgrade. I didn't change any settings.

Maybe after every 10 seconds or so of the fan not running, the fan turns on low (sort of quiet a whirr that I can hear from 6 feet away) for a few seconds.

I tried to reply earlier but my message got moderated I guess for including links.

Mine shows:
Core Version 5.14
Compliancy UEFI 2.7; PI 1.6
Project Version MPC31V007 x64
EC Version V005

I haven't noticed any improvement with this version of the BIOS. I have a video recording where you can hear the fan behaviour but I'm not sure how to post it without my message getting automodded.
