Manjaro ARM for Beelink GT King Pro
The Manjaro ARM project is proud to announce the first alpha release for Beelink GT King Pro !!
Thanks to Beelink for the sample device. This image is running Mainline 5.9.0 Linux kernel.

CAUTION: To run this image you will need to erase android on emmc without erasing the emmc this will not boot at all.
Try only if you want to test it as you will lose all the data on emmc.
I or Manjaro ARM Linux will not be responsible for the lose of your data, this is Alpla image for testing and development only.

How to install:
  • Download the Manjaro-ARM-kde-plasma-gtking-pro-Mainline.img.xz image/xz file from the download location. Verify that the download completed successfully.
  • Install Etcher (sudo pacman -S etcher if on Manjaro) and burn the to an SD card (8 GB or larger).
  • Erase the emmc, this can only be done by flashing the latest android image using the burning tool and once it started burning then wait for it to reach 15% and unplug the usb cable once you see 15% on the burning tool. This will erase the emmc.
  • Now insert the sd card which you have flashed Manjaro-ARM-kde-plasma-gtking-pro-Mainline.img.xz mage on.
  • This it should recognize the SD card as a bootable device and boot from it.
  • You will see the Kernel loading and it will take you to the First Time OEM Setup screen

First Time setup
This release sports the First Time setup for all images, also via SSH. This means that at first boot, you will be asked about the following:
  • keyboard layout
  • username
  • additional user groups (optional)
  • full name
  • password for that username
  • password for root
  • timezone
  • locale
  • hostname
Then the setup script will set these settings and reboot to the login screen. If it fails to restart then just power off and power on the device.

On first boot during the login screen please switch the KDE Session from Plasma Wayland to just Plasma.
Also run the sound service to enable sound and reboot.
Pass this command in konsole(terminal):
  1. sudo systemctl enable sound --now
Copy the Code

Just an update on Manjaro-Arm-Gnome on Beelink GT King Pro.

I was facing stability issue on BeelinK GT King Pro with mainline linux-5.15.y and 5.16.y recently (stability was good before that).  Always had issue with linux-vim kernel since it switched to tobetter branch.

@spikerguy did a great job in resolving it with this **[Manjaro-ARM-gnome-gtking-pro-20220125.img.xz](https://github.com/manjaro-arm/gtking-pro-images/releases/download/20220125/Manjaro-ARM-gnome-gtking-pro-20220125.img.xz)** build, using bootscript.method.

This new Manjaor-Arm image works on USB Flash but somehow did not boot up on SD Card (Samsung Evo Plus Class 10 U3).

So far works smoothly and no more kernel panic issue to date.  FYI, this is still a development image as such is on Unstable Branch.  It can boot on any of the GT King Pro USB 3.0 or OTG Ports and with HDD attached on any ports.  Thank you @spikerguy

There are two drawbacks I noticed. First is the reported available RAM is 3.25GB instead of 3.69GB when using chainloader u-boot.ext image.  And second it sometimes does not "Shutdown" cleanly meaning when you "Power Off" from the "Menu" the device still have the Power LED ON and it does NOT Reboot either (just like on Manjaro mainline linux kernel).

Just updated to latest Unstable updates and is now on linux-khadas-5.16.7-1.

Dear @spikerguy,

Manjaro is not my daily driver, I fixed gpg error with commands you shared, thanks.
Yesterday evening I tried your last build again,
When I used firefox cpu usage was %100 it points me that hardware acceleration is not enabled or does not work properly.
I installed Chromium, tested webgl and 1080p50Hz video performans on youtube.
All over performance was good and this is the best ManjaroARM version that I tried till now.
I checked blkid & /etc/fstab and fstab was correct.

Yes @alexandamiked
You are right, I just found out that in new images  roots PARTUUID is also included in fstab, previously we never used that. I am currently looking into rearranging the bootscript files so in future update it does not break the emmc installation.

I will enable PSI in next kernel build which should be tomorrow or on weekend.
I will add that to the emmc install script in new packages.
Keyring issue is a regression in new pacman package, it is resolved in newer release package.

Dear @spikerguy,

I tried it and it booted successfully, congratulations again.

I liked it a lot but need to mention that I had 2 issues:
First one was pgp key error, second one was a screen freeze after heavy usage.

Since it is a daily build both issues are not bothered me,
I'm sure it will run properly on stable version.

Thanks a lot for your great efforts on ManjaroARM...
Regards,

I downloaded gnome image flashed to usb ssd but it did not boot.
I tried different usb ports but no luck did not boot successfully.

I changed boot scripts, added u-boot.ext and tried multiple times but no luck again it did not boot.
I'm sorry to say that but it seems this build need some extra work.

@spikerguy,

Hopefully will give more time to these devices and prepare new image with and without mainline uboot.

Looking forward to your continued support.
For your info, there is a new patch for " cursor plane patch" for Amlogic Device. https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=52&p=336248&sid=98a839b6db2e151be9c3443354242ab5#p336248

Hi To All GT King Pro user who would like to try out Manjaro,

I have been using Manjaro-Arm on GT King Pro (Revision A)  for more than 7 months now and it has been a positive experience and the support from the Manjaro Team and the Manjaro-Arm community is good.  I have tried three Manjaro-Arm-Edition, XFCE, GNOME and KDE.  All three DE runs smoothly on GT King Pro.  To avoid kernel panic on Manjaro on GT King Pro, the most stable so far is Manjaro mainline linux kernel  which is currently linux-5.14.y.  The current linux-vim  have kernel panic issue during the boot up process and also random kernel panic after successfully booting.  Have not been able to boot up with linux=aml kernel so far.

With mainline linux kernel, Manjaro is as stable as Ubuntu or Debian on GT King Pro in my experience so far.  I would like to highlight Manjaro-Arm-GNOME Edition, surprisingly uses low memory resources (less than 600MB on startup) which is lower than the typical Ubuntu Desktop Environment  (at least for those that I have installed) and on Wayland session it had been a very positive experience.  Responsive, no Panfrost visual artifacts and the mouse arrow/cursor is stable without flickering (on both the stable mesa-21.2.2-1 or mesa-git-21.3.0-devel  from the Manjaro Repo.

Oh the Manjaro-Arm-XFCE-Edition is good too.  Had limited experience on Manjaro-Arm-KDE and was not able to get KDE-Wayland to work on GT King Pro.

Would like to thank @spkerguy, @darkstar and @tripole on their guidance and got me started on Linux.

Looking forward to the version where it can boot up from SD/USB.

Nearly impossible at this stage until someone find's out the changes that makes kernel panic on vendor uboot.

I will update this image to newer uboot-2021 version as we got it to read 4gb ram now. :D

Finally I can get rid of the Android on my GS King X and get Mainline uboot and Mainline Linux Kernel which will make GS King X one of the best Linux NAS/Media Server box on ARM :D

Hello,
Nothing yet,  one of the linux kernel developer have recieved the device and will start looking into it once he gets time, he can debug in detail and try to adjust the kernel or advice Beelink to make changes to the uboot.
We will have to wait some more to find the issue accurately and a possible solution.
