Short of adding the controller, I tested the bios changes.  (This is for the v22 model)

The 2021-03-03 - this sets a constant fan speed of somewhere between blowdryer and jet engine.  This made the unit run extremely loud all of the time.  It is virtually unusable with this BIOS if it isn't installed in an auto shop or active coal mine.

The 2021-04-10 - this BIOS undid the fan changes from 03-03 and give the variable fan again, which is quiet most of the time and then turns into a hairdryer when you do anything.  This is much better than having it in jet engine mode all of the time.

I think the controller might be the best way to go, it doesn't appear that hard to install.

Hi

I got the same problem you had.
#noisy fan -> update FW -> alwasy 100% speed fan

I saw chrisf built a note to handle it by yourself (DIY like) but the link is now error 404.
Can someone please send me the procedure? I would really appreciate it.

thanks

Guys, I've uploaded a small Christmas present:
A DIY guide to fix the fan noise issue :-)

The Xmas Present link seems broken?

This is an old thread / topic .. but my U59 is so quiet and cool i don't think the fan is even running. At least not while doing reasonably simple things on the PC.

You can feel the outside of the machine to see if the temperature is too high.
If the temperature is not high and the machine has no glitches, there is no problem with the fan.
