I have seen some threads regarding 4k HDR videos, and would like to share my experience so far... I'm using X55 8G/128G since some days now, and I have just fnished looking at "Spiderman - Far from home" in 4k HDR (H.265 10b 60hz)... simply perfect :) no frame loss, very smooth, really very high image quality (HDR is really incredible, but you have to set up the tv accordingly otherwise it looks quite "washed out"), cpu always around 30%, gpu always around 70%... stunning!!!
I have also seen some other movies and anime, all H.265 4k 10b, all perfect!!!
I'm using MPC-HC 64b from Klite Codec, mega pack. Windows 10 1903, intel drivers 26.20.100.6911
I really recommend this little gem if you want to have a very performant video box able to reproduce 4k HDR very smoothly. I'm fully satisfied :)
unfortunately I don't have the adsl speed to test 4k streaming with netflix and the like, so don't know ow it will performf with that.... :(

I read your post with interest.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but when I try to play a 4k movie that I've downloaded my X55 really struggles - using VLC... It's a HEVC H265 10 bit file...

I downloaded the MPC-HC mega pack you referred to above and changed my bios so the cpu isn't capped at 6 watts and ... nothing.

In fact it plays back worse in MPC than it does in VLC

What do you think I might be doing wrong?
BTW - I have another pc with an I5 and Amd Radeon RX 580 and the same movie in 4k plays fine

I'm really surprised on HDR, because Intel HD graphics  600&605 does not support HDR.
So i don't know how you see the movies in HDR without graphic card support :o

So i don't kno ...

Yah... I read this

https://forums.intel.com/s/quest ... -hdr?language=en_US

Says no support for HDR - so not sure how phaetonfb has got it working

The good news (for me at least) is that my tv does support HDR

So I've just put the few 4k movies that I have on a usb drive and play them that way - they look great and when they play a little info icon pops up at the start to say the picture settings have changed to HDR 10

Just to update = Im sure most people already know this...

My TV can also connect to my X55 and read the file via the network and my TV can then render the UHD movie perfectly that way too
